During the celebrations of the International Cat day on 17 February 2013 in Szczytno, co-organized by the Police Academy, the Municipal Office, and the Polish Platform for Homeland Security, an auction was held in the Ventzi Gallery of paintings made by representatives of the Platform (information on the gallery). The auction was conducted by insp. dr hab. Arkadiusz Letkiewicz, Deputy Commander in Chief of the Police, and dr Zbigniew Rau, Coordinator of the Polish Platform for Homeland Security.
The idea to help the animals first came to the Szczytno’s youth: the students of the secondary schools and the cadets of the Police Academy. The volunteers collect animal feed and other things for the animals, in particular the cats and the dogs living in Szczytno’s “Four Paws” animal shelter.
The facility, first in Poland and most likely the only one in Europe, created with the involvement of the Polish Platform for Homeland Security, will benefit blind and visually impaired persons in their learning of spatial orientation and participation in traffic, to include in urban areas.
